答案来源:www.ybaotk.com继续教育学院课程考试试题卷学期:2022年秋季

课程名称【编号】:英语写作【0846】                        A卷

考试类别:大作业                                    满分:100分

答题时请注明题目编号。

I. Write a topic sentence on the Answer Sheet for the following group of sentences. (10 points)

Group 1

Topic sentence: ___________________________________________________________________.

Many people who earn the minimum wage are trying to support families with this salary.

No one working full-time and earning the minimum wage makes enough money to pay for rent, food, and other necessities.

If we raise the minimum wage, families will have more money to spend, and therefore other businesses will make more money.

For so many reasons, it is the right thing to do.

Group 2

The judge sat with a grim look on her face.

The room was thick with anticipation.

I wish I had that day to do over again.

I will never drink and drive again.

Topic sentence: _______________________________________________________________________.II. Read the following paragraphs to identify the sentence which is not related to its topic. Write the number of the unrelated sentences on the Answer Sheet. (10 points)Paragraph 1

In the 1984 movie, The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, artificially intelligent machines take over the earth in 2029 and attempt to exterminated the human race. And while that was originally a science fiction fantasy, the fact is that robotics technology has advanced tremendously over the past 30 years since that movie was made. (1) And although robots come in many different shapes and forms, we’ve heard more and more about the type called ‘drone’ in the recent news. (2) A drone is basically an unmanned aerial vehicle, that is, it’s a flying robot with no onboard pilot. (3) Now most drones these days are controlled remotely by a human and make use of advanced computer technology to carry out their designed function, which is either surveillance or combat. (4) Drones become teenage boys’ favorite gifts for the recent years.Paragraph 2

Learning a second language can provide a deeper understanding of a foreign culture. Social habits that may not make sense to most outsiders might start to make more sense after a few vocabulary lessons. For example, I always wondered why my Dutch cousins rarely said “you’re welcome” after I said “thank you”. (1) My cousin can speak English but sometimes makes mistakes. (2) At first, I thought he was being rude, but when I learned more about his language, I realized that they don’t use “you’re welcome” the same way we do: in response to “thank you”. (3) They actually say something that translates to “If you please” when they offer you something. (4) This is one of the first things I learned about Dutch culture when I started to learn their language and it gave me a different perspective on the roles of host and guest since in Dutch the onus to be polite is on the host, and not the guest as it seems to be in English.III. Put the following group of sentences into correct order. Write the number of the reordered sentences on the Answer Sheet. (10 points)

After Armstrong and fellow astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin returned to Earth, the bag containing the lunar sample had somehow been misplaced and forgotten.

When NASA tested the pouch, they found it definitely contained lunar dust, a fine grey powder resembling graphite.

It wasn’t included with the hundreds of Apollo 11 artifacts Johnson Space Center sent to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.

In fact, it contained some of the very first moon dust ever collected, by the Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong back in July 1969.

If it had been included, visitors to the museum can admire it within a short distance.IV. Composition writing (70 points)

As awareness about children's health increases in China, Beijing is pioneering a new system of teaching and testing physical education as it strives to improve students' fitness levels.

What urgent changes do you think should be made to the PE (physical education) for schools in China? Instructions: Write a composition of about 200 words to discuss the issue, using specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
