问题 21: 21. 阅读下面的短文,根据文章内容进行选择。
Can trees talk? Yes, but not in words. Scientists have reason to believe that trees do communicate (交际) with each other. Not long ago, researchers learned some surprising things. First a willow tree attacked in the woods by caterpillars (毛虫) changed the chemistry of its leaves and made them taste so terrible that they got tired of the leaves and stopped eating them. Then even more astonishing, the tree sent out a special smell—a signal (信号) causing its neighbors to change the chemistry of their own leaves and make them less tasty.
Communication, of course, doesn't need to be in words. We can talk to each other by smiling, raising our shoulders and moving our hands. We know that birds and animals use a whole vocabulary of songs, sounds, and movements. Bees dance their signals, flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar (花蜜) for honey. So why shouldn't trees have ways of sending message?
1. It can be concluded from the passage that caterpillars do not feed on leaves that .
A.are lying on the ground
B.have an unpleasant taste
C.bees don't like
2.The willow tree described in the passage protected itself by .
A.growing more branches
B.communicating with birds and bees
C.changing its leaf chemistry
3.According to the passage, the willow tree was able to communicate with other trees by .
A.waving its branches
B.giving off a special smell
C.dropping its leaves
4. According to this passage, bees communicate by .
A.making special movement
B.touching one another
C.smelling one another
5.The author believes that the incident described in the passage .
A.cannot be taken seriously
B.should no longer be permitted
C.seems completely reasonable

问题 22: 22. 阅读下面的短文,根据文章内容进行选择。
If you think 3D printing is only good for making flimsy paperweights, then you're pretty much right. However, a group of audacious Dutch architects have already begun 3D printing an entire canal house in Amsterdam. Is the first 3D printed house a gimmick? Definitely! Is it an experiment that pushes the possibilities for 3D printing technology and architecture? Maybe!
3D Print Canal House is the brainchild of DUS Architects. “KamerMaker”, Dutch for “room maker”, is their giant printer built inside a shipping container. Just a few weeks ago, KamerMaker began printing plastic furniture and walls at an empty canal-side lot in northern Amsterdam. Smaller versions of the unusual honeycomb walls have been tested on normal desktop printers, and everyone just needed to scale it up. Well, if only it were that easy.
“The printer did not always manage to spread the plastic evenly, making some of the ribs of the honeycomb structure of the block uneven,” reported ARN (Australian Radio Network), to the surprise of no one who has used a 3D printer. But the architects remain optimistic. The first few printed blocks are meant to be test pieces as they improve the process.
It takes about a week to print a 3-meter high block right now. The project's leader hopes to eventually get that down to two hours and finish the first of 12 rooms in a year, and the entire house in less than 3 years.
Ultimately, 3D Print Canal House is an architectural research project, one that is very much being conducted in the public eye: you can actually buy tickets to visit the construction site for 2.50 Euros.
The top floors will become more ornate, for example, as newer techniques are incorporated. They'll explore the possibilities of 3D printing, like the honeycomb walls or an entire room recycled, redesigned, and built anew. Nobody's going to move into a 3D printed house soon, but, if anyone ever does, something might be learned from this experiment by the canal.
1. What have the Dutch architects begun to use the 3D printer to do according to the passage?
A.To make heavy paperweights.
B.To print the unusual honeycomb.
C.To print an entire canal house.
2. Where did KamerMaker begin printing plastic furniture and walls several weeks ago?
A.It was inside a shipping container in Amsterdam.
B.It was at an empty canal-side lot in northern Amsterdam.
C.It was in a canal house in Amsterdam.
3. What is the weakness of the 3D printer mentioned in the passage?
A.It cannot always spread the plastic evenly.
B.It needs to be shortened.
C.It cannot make the ribs of the honeycomb structure.
4. How long will it take for the 3D printer to make the canal house in Amsterdam?
A.A week.
B.Two hours.
C.Less than 3 years.
5. Which of the following statements is WRONG according to the passage?
A.This canal house is being built in the public eye.
B.The top floors of the canal house will be more decorated.
C.Someone is going to move into this canal house soon.

问题 23: 23. 阅读下面的短文,根据文章内容进行选择。
Baidu, China's leading search engine company, has unveiled its own eyewear called Baidu Eye. It is said to be a different product from Google Glass in terms of functionality.
The company demonstrated a working prototype on September 3 at its annual Technology Innovation Conference in Beijing. It bears a similarity to Google Glass, but it has no screen. Instead, the device uses a camera to scan objects, and focuses on analyzing information around its user and beaming that to a smartphone.
Baidu says the device is designed to support image search. The company's CEO Robin Li believes in five years’ time, people will get used to searching by image and audio rather than text. Li has given an example of how one can take advantage of Baidu Eye, “If you are in a shopping mall and come across a woman whose skirt looks really attractive, you take a photo of her skirt using Baidu Eye, and you'll get to know where to buy one for yourself.”
According to Kaiser Kuo, Baidu's director of international communications, Baidu Eye can also recognize voice and gesture, “You can use voice commands, or gesture commands—like expanding to zoom, or circling an object in your field of view with your finger.”
Baidu is yet to announce a release date or marketing plans for Baidu Eye.
1. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Google Glass? Baidu Eye!
B.Google Glass and Baidu Eye.
C.Baidu Eye is different from Google Glass.
2.From the passage, we can know that Google Glass .
A.has screen
B.has no screen
C.has the same design as Baidu Eye
3. The purpose to design Baidu Eye is to .
A.use a camera to scan objects
B.focus on analyzing information around its user
C.support image search
4. Baidu Eye has the new functions EXCEPT.
A.searching by image
B.recognizing voice
C.searching by text
5. We can infer from the passage that .
A.the screen is the most important part of the Baidu Eye

(课外资料)
In the grass, a baby duck was hatched (孵化) out in a college biology lab with a backward left foot. At the time, it probably wouldn’t have survived, if Mike Gary didn’t recommend a proper operation to cut off that bad foot.
Months after the healing process, engineers at Novacopy Company produced a 3D printed model that would be used to create a prosthetic (修复的) foot for the duck. Considering that ABS plastics were not flexible enough for this type of exercise, the Novacopy company made a three-dimensionally modeled foot made of silicone, with the hope to create a permanent prosthesis(假肢) for the duck.
It took just 13 hours to produce. This 3D prosthesis demonstrated the 3D technologies can be used not only for human application, but also in foreign subjects such as animals and other medical treatments.
Where was the baby duck hatched out?
A. In a college biology lab.
B. In a back yard.
C. In Noacopy Company.
2. What was wrong with the baby duck?
A. It didn’t survived.
B. It was born with a backward left foot.

A. No, because ABS plastics were not flexible enough.
B. Yes, but it could only be produced by Novacopy Company.
C. Yes, because it was made of silicone.
4. How long did it take to create a permanent prosthesis for the duck?
A. 10 hours.
